Don’t underestimate the Tiger King.

In the same way that Joe Exotic drew crowds of customers to his Oklahoma tiger zoo, he drew in a massive audience eager to binge Netflix’s docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness.”

According to Nielsen per Deadline, “Tiger King” drew 34.3 million unique viewers in the first 10 days of its release from March 20-29.

The twisted and captivating series beat out season 2 of “Stranger Things”, which amassed 31.2 million views in its first 10 days, by more than 3 million viewers.

“Tiger King” now sits in second place next to the third season of “Stranger Things,” which drew a whopping 36.3 million views over the first 10 days after premiering during the 4th of July weekend in 2019.

Nielsen pinpointed that during the premiere weekend between March 20-23, “Tiger King” brought in an average minute audience of 2.4 million in the U.S. Over the 10-day period, it averaged an audience of 19.0 million in the U.S per minute, once again beating out “Stranger Things 2” with 17.5 million per minute.

“Tiger King” came second only to “Stranger Things 3” with 20.5 million viewers per minute.

The docuseries seemed to benefit largely from the “stay at home” order brought on by the global coronavirus pandemic and the social media buzz.

The seven-episode docuseries explores the world of big cat breeding. It focuses on Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as “Joe Exotic” or “Tiger King,” a gun-toting, mullet wearing, country music singer and zoo owner, whose hatred for animal rights activist, Carole Baskin, landed him in prison on several charges including a murder-for-hire plot.

Current zoo owner, Jeff Lowe, revealed that Netflix will be airing one more episode of the series next week as a treat to all the passionate fans.

Currently, Joe Exotic, who is serving a 22-year sentence, has been moved to a quarantine in a medical center in Texas after his fellow prison mates tested positive for coronavirus.
