World Wish Day honors the anniversary of the wish granted to a boy named Chris, who wished to be a police officer. Granting his wish inspired the creation of Make-A-Wish^® and sparked a global wish-granting movement. Every 38 minutes, Make-A-Wish^® grants the wish of a child with a life threatening medical condition somewhere in the world. Globally, more than 240,000 wishes have been granted since 1980. Make-A-Wish is now active in 35 countries.

Delaney "Laney" Ann Brown had been suffering from Leukemia and listed talking to the singer on her bucket list. As a surprise for the girl's eighth birthday, Swift called Brown on FaceTime to brighten her day. E! Online has since reported that the young fan died on Christmas day, but many of her final wishes were granted.
