During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Liam Hemsworth revealed Miley Cyrus has decided to take her husband's last name following their December wedding.
“I heard you got married to one of my favorite people...Miley Cyrus” Kelly Ripa greeted the 29-year-old actor on Friday (Feb. 8). With a sweet smile, Liam corrected the talk show host. “ Miley Ray Hemsworth now, actually,” he replied. Though she’ll continue to “be known as Miley Cyrus” professionally, she's officially a Hemsworth in her personal life.
“I think that was honestly one of the best things about it. I didn’t ask her to take my name, but then she’s like, ‘No, of course I’m taking your name ,’ ” he recalled. “I’m like, ‘That’s awesome. That’s really good.’'
Liam also opened up about what his first month as a married man has been like, saying it's exciting to be able to call each other husband and wife. "It's become a little more normal, but the first couple of weeks it was... I mean, it's only been a month and a half," he said. "But the first couple of weeks was really foreign to me, with 'wife' and 'husband.'" Now that he's gotten used to the change, though, he has Miley saved in his phone now as simply "wife."
As for why they decided to opt for a small, intimate wedding at their Tennessee home, he said, “We find the whole thing kind of embarrassing. We know how we feel about each other, but we just wanted to do something simple and organic and just with immediate family. But it was a really nice day. Really special.”
