Report: The Roots Picnic is expanding to New York City #MMBMusic

The Roots Picnic will no longer be uniquely Philly.
According to Billy Penn, the event that for nine years has marked the kickoff of summer music fests in the city will expand to New York City this fall. Live Nation, which produces the local show, is expected to carry out the NYC version.
A source revealed to BP few details – there’s no set venue or acts but it’s anticipated to take place in September or October. The festival will still maintain its flagship show in Philadelphia.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the possibility of an expanded Roots Picnic. According to a 2015 piece from the Huffington Post, last year’s ticket sales brought in record-breaking revenue that made The Roots crew seriously contemplate reaching beyond the Philadelphia region. “I feel like pretty soon, we may be growing out of the festival here in Philadelphia. Because we’re close to capacity now,” Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter told the publication. The article also alluded to events taking place in D.C., Detroit and Baltimore.
Requests for comment from Live Nation have not been returned.
This year’s Roots Picnic is happening on Saturday, June 4 at Festival Pier and will feature Usher, Future, Leon Bridges, Willow Smith, DMX, Swizz Beats, Jidenna, Metro Boomin, Blood Orange, Anderson .Paak, Kaytranada, and more.
