Chris Jericho Suspended For Denigrating Brazilian Flag [UPDATE]

WWE Superstar Chris Jericho has been suspended for 30 days due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE live event in São Paulo on May 24. Regarding the CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho match that led to Jericho's suspension, the match began with Jericho insulting Brazil in a heel promo. A fan tossed the Brazilian flag to Punk and he raised it up to a pop from the crowd. Jericho took the same flag that Punk had and kicked it.

During the match, a referee came down and interrupted. Jericho was forced to take the mic and apologize to the Brazilian fans for disrespecting the flag earlier. The match continued and Punk ended up winning. Punk celebrated with the Brazilian flag and the WWE Title while Jericho was hurried to the back where police officers were waiting.

Jericho was almost arrested but cooler heads prevailed and he was hurried out of the country.

Internal reaction to the Chris Jericho flag incident last week among the WWE talents was they were more shocked and upset than anything else. While it was a big deal online, behind the scene it was not.

The feeling was that Jericho was just doing his job but WWE had to suspend him because he violated the local laws in Brazil and because the incident could be used against the company in the future.

On Twitter Jericho still insists that he is done with this run in WWE, suspension or not.
