The Rock Signs On For New Reality Show 'The Hero'

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is on the hunt for the next big American “hero.” Variety reports that the actor and former WWE heavyweight has signed on to appear in the new reality show, aptly titled, “The Hero.”

On the “Survivor”-like program, three teams are picked to traverse three continents in an effort to demonstrate their strength and heroism.
The Rock will serve as a muscle-bound cheerleader of sorts, encouraging team members to keep moving when the going gets tough.
"'The Hero' will bridge the digital and physical world on the small screen in an unmatched fashion, enabling fans to determine the fate of the show's contestants entirely through social media and on-screen decision-making," said Johnson in a statement. He is co-producing the show, the brainchild of former creators for “The Amazing Race” “Survivor” and “Fashion Star.”
"While Dwayne's physical stature is unmatched, it is his uncompromising moral character and humanity that proves what an inspirational hero he is," said Ben Silverman, head of Electus Entertainment.
Rock’s next big film is “G.I. Joe 2: The Retaliation," and he told Entertainment Weekly not to expect anything like the original.
"I can tell you this one is creatively much different [from the first],"Johnson said. "It’s rooted, it’s grounded, it’s real. The studio came to me and I loved the idea of starring in the movie because I grew up on G.I. Joe and it’s a massive property. I spoke to the studio and they told me about the creative shift that they wanted to make with the movie, which made it easy for me to sign on."
The action flick hits theaters June 29.
