Newark Mayor Cory Booker was taken to the hospital Thursday evening afterattempting to rescue the inhabitants of a burning house near his own New Jersey home, a spokeswoman said.
According to NJ.com:
The fire occurred at a two-story building on Hawthorne Avenue in the Upper Clinton Hill neighborhood, shortly before the mayor had arrived home following a television interview on News 12 New Jersey.
Booker tweeted the following as he headed to the hospital:
Thanks 2 all who are concerned. Just suffering smoke inhalation. We got the woman out of the house. We are both off to hospital. I will b ok
