Ron Jaworski no longer will be an analyst on Monday Night Football. ESPN announced the move Wednesday, choosing to go with the two-person team of Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden. MNF will use a two-person team for just the sixth time in its 42-year history. Jaworski called MNF for the last five seasons.
However, don’t fret – you still will see plenty of Jaworski. The former Eagles’ QB has signed a five-year extension an take on what the network's release called a “new, expanded multiplatform” role. In other words, Jaws will be seen and/or heard on every show but MNF.
“I am grateful for having the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of working on Monday Night Football the past five seasons with Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden and so many other talented people behind the scenes who make the show so great, and I look forward to bringing my passion and knowledge of the game to more fans in more places than ever before on any and all football topics,” Jaworski said in a statement.
Jaworski played 10 seasons with the Eagles and in 1980 led them to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance. He spent an season in Miami and another with Kansas City before joining ESPN in 1990.
