Like many people currently self-isolating or under quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic, Pop star Charli XCX is trying to keep busy during the time at home.
Unlike most people, the UK singer is going to use the time to write, record, and release a new album, all while sharing the process with the public through Zoom meetings and Instagram Live sessions.
With a little over a month to go until the planned May 15 release date, Charli XCX shared via a Zoom session that she’ll be taking input from fans. Saying it’s her “most collaborative project” to date, she’ll ask fans their opinion on beats, lyrics, demos, and even artwork for How I’m Feeling Now, and will ask them to contribute videos to the process.
“During this quarantine time period, I have found that, for me, my positivity goes hand in hand with being creative,” she shared. “I really need to be creative to feel happy and to feel comfortable, and to make sure that my mental health is staying on track.”
“I’m going to basically be making it live from scratch. There are a couple ideas in the works, but it’s basically I’m starting from nothing,” she said, noting that fans will be able to comment on the project and submit ideas via a designated e-mail address or Dropbox account.
The “Boom Clap” singer says that she tabled another album that she had been putting together because “it didn’t feel right to release that right now,” and will instead focus on making art that is a reflection of her current state.
