Phillies Host Royals In 2013 Home Opener

The Astros' move to the American League next season means each league will contain 15 teams and each division five teams. It also means that Major League Baseball's 2013 schedule, released on Wednesday, will include at least one interleague game each day.

What does that have to do with the Phillies?

After opening the 2013 season April 1-4 in Atlanta (where they also finish the regular season) the Phillies will play their home opener on April 5 at 4:05 p.m. against the Kansas City Royals in the first of a three-game set.

The Phillies will play a home-and-home, two-game series with the Boston Red Sox. The teams play at Fenway Park on May 27 and 28 and at Citizens Bank Park on May 29 and 30.

The Phillies, in interleague play, also host the White Sox, Indians, Tigers and Twins and travel to Minnesota, Detroit and Cleveland.

The first half of the season closes out with a 10-game home stand before the All-Star break on July 15.

In September, the final month of the season, the Phillies have 15 home games before closing the season out with a three-game set in Miami and a four-game series in Atlanta.

The Phils return from Clearwater to close their exhibition schedule at Citizens Bank Park with the annual On-Deck series against the Blue Jays on March 29 and 30.
